Although the rainy season in Bolivia is decreasing with regards to how many documented rain days there are per year, the amount of rain per storm has significantly increased. The massive rain storms that are crashing down on Bolivia are the root cause for the increasing number of devastating floods.

La Niña and El Niño weather patterns in February 2014 brought the most devastating floods Bolivia has seen in over 60 years. Evo declared a state of national emergency on January 27.

Floods recently (in the past 3 years) have killed more than 50 people and drastically affected the livelihoods of over 150,000 people, including 80% of the indigenous communities in the Amazonian lowlands region, according to the government.
